Hi all. My basic problem is with my internet. I get about 30 Mbps download. Not great, but not bad, either. The issue is that it's great on some websites and not so great on others. A specific example would be Twitch.tv. A 30 bit download should be sufficient to watch a livestream in pretty much any resolution, but I can't even watch in 480p without buffering every 30 seconds or so. The issue has started within the last month or so. It's not just Twitch, though. Pretty much any site that's not a multi-million dollar site has issues that it probably shouldn't. I like to watch anime through several small hosting sites (for numerous reasons), but within the last month, that's become impossible due to the buffer. YouTube, however, plays just fine. Netflix also seems unaffected.
I've checked my router (restarted and everything), but I haven't found any discrepancies there. I've also done virus scans to make sure there aren't any issues there. I've only got one router here, and I'm using the wired connection from it, not the wifi. I do have wifi, though, and I've secured it with a password. However, for testing purposes, I've completely turned the wifi off to make sure no one was piggy-backing on it. It didn't help. So my question is this; is this a net neutrality issue? Is my ISP constricting my bandwidth to certain websites? Do I just have to tacitly accept this, or is there something I can do? I thought about setting up a VPN, but I'm not sure that would help. Networking is, admittedly, my weakest subject. Any help and/or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
