My internet connection keeps dropping at night and weekends. I have contacted the ISP (Time Warner) and their technicians come over many times but during the day on weekdays and say there is no problem. Since they of little help, I read posts on online regarding similar problems but they all suggest run of the mill solutions like check drivers and change the cable. I have gone through these steps many times and now I'm at my wits end. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Here is some background to the problem.
I live in an apartment complex which has a "Bulk Residential" internet account with Time Warner Cable. Each room in each apartment has a wall outlet where a CAT5 connector can be plugged in. Internet connections are managed by Korcett and they require us to setup an account and the MAC address of the computer or wifi router we plug in to the wall is identified and associated with our account. The problem as stated earlier is that the internet connection keeps dropping when I use the connection in my room.
I have tried connecting with 4 different cables so I can safely say that is not the problem. I have tried two different laptops, a 5 year old Thinkpad T400 and a 6 month year old T430. I have also tried a Netis wifi router. The same issue comes up with all these devices. Furthermore, they all work absolutely fine when I connect them to the outlet in my roommates room.
The recommended setting is to acquire IP settings automatically. However, the network recognizes the MAC address of the device and assigns them the same IP address. So I have tried assigning static IP address as well. This works slightly better in that it at least makes a connection but with no internet where have the automatic IP setting fails completely. One of the tech help guys who I talked to on the phone said that there was a "rogue device" on my line. I don't know what this means and the Time Warner tech guys who show up at my apartment completely ignores it.
Why would this connection work sometimes and not at others? Can someone please tell me what is going and how to fix it ? Or at least tell me how I may convince the Time Warner technicians that this a real problem?
Thanks in advance.
