I recently moved and I got the internet connection set up in the new house about a week or so ago. It's a 25mbps up and down optic fiber connection and it's been working great for all the machines in the house except mine. I found threads with simillar problems but none offered me any help so I will try to be as thorough as possible.
When the connection got setup, there were issues. The pass provided by the ISP did not work (and still does not) and the two computers that were connected to the network initially (my brother's and the one in question) were connected by using the pin of the modem instead of the password. Initially my computer got decent speeds but not as high as they were supposed to be (30~ ms ping, 3-7download, 23 upload). My brother's had a horrid connection which kept dropping. I went to the network's properties and found the actual key for the network and told my brother to connect his laptop through it. After he did that he instantly got the 25 up and down connection. My father connected another laptop directly to the modem through cable and also got the 25 up and down which he now also gets through wifi as well. Cellphones, tablets, even the laptop of a guest, they all connect with that password and get 25 up and down just fine.
Then we come to my computer. Let's begin by saying that in my previous house I was connected through cable. Even though I am not a big fan of wifi, since the new house does not have ethernet outlets, I got a TP-Link TL-WDN4800 wireless adapter. For the first few days I was connected with the half decent speeds I told you through having entered the pin of the modem. When my father connected his laptop, my speeds dropped to where they are today (18-50ms ping , 0-1download,6 upload). I am not sure whether his connecting his laptp to the network caused it or not and I will tell you why later on. I tried reconnecting using the password which worked for my brother's computer but it didn't work. I tried deleting all old network profiles and creating new ones but it didn't work. I tried connecting to the network without any other device on it but that also did not work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and utility of the network card multiple times and with various combinations , sometimes installing only the drivers without the utility etc. I downloaded the drivers and utility from the website (because I was using the included disc before), uninstalled the old ones, still no improvement. No matter what I have tried so far, I always get the same crappy connection.
At some point in between trying all those methods, I also tried connecting through cable. As I mentioned before, in my previous home I used a cable to connect to the internet and it worked just fine. With a cable I couldn't get a connection at all, with the computer aknowledging it was connected to a network but not having access to the internet. Whenever I tried to connect I got the windows error 651. I looked up ways to fix that and I have tried many, power cycling the modem, trying to connect on safe mode, disabling firewall, fiddling with network settings and pretty much almost all recommended solutions you find when looking for a solution for the particular error. I was not able to fix it.
Having noticed that I got a crappy connection the same day my father got his laptop on the network I was suspecting that there was a connection. When he left for a trip and took his laptop with him my connection got better (3-7 download, 17 upload) but only for a few days and it went back to the really low speed where it has stayed until now. That is why I am not sure whether his laptop was causing some problem or it was just coincidence.
As you can see this is quite a complicated problem, two problems to be exact, with my wireless being slow only on my computer and my wired getting error 651. Solutions for either would be greatly appreciated. I tried being as descriptive as I could but with the size of this text I am bound to have left something out.
