I can't connect to internet on desktop and after cosulting my internet provider Iwas told it was my card ant try and reinstall driver for same but where and how do I do this without internet access. i am on a friends computer seeking help.
If you cant download the driver on the computer then you need to know the vendor and model of your lan card. im assuming you do not know this so the easiest way of doing this is going to the manufacturer of your computer. is your computer custom built, dell, Hp,etc. i need the maker of the computer
Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.
Like cec_cec56 said, download and install the last driver of your network card. After this, on CMD write this: ping 127.0.0.1, if you don't have a reply, your network card is dead.

127.x.x.x is usually loopback which will work even without a network card installed. if 127.x.x.x doesn't respond, you have more issues than your NIC not working.
But I can't really add anything useful since this is a device issue and not a networking issue unless the device is reported as working.

127.0.0.1 ALWAYS reply at least the your network card of network port of your mobo is dead. If you don't have a NIC, you mobo have one, that always reply if is good, if you have a NIC you receive 2 reply, one of the NIC and one of your mobo.
