I have an Arris TM1602 modem and an Asus RT-n66u router. If I am downloading something that reaches download speed cap the internet is guaranteed to die until I reset the modem.

The internet will also slow to a crawl if it has simply been a day or so since reset.

I just flashed my firmware to merlin in an attempt to fix it, but it is the same issue.

Charter says it is not them, it must be my router, but I can leave the roputer on during the modem reset and as soon as the modem comes back online the internet returns. I dont have to restart my router at all.

Please help. This has been ongoing for months.

When this happens, you plug a test machine (known to work) DIRECTLY to the modem, use a crossover cable if you have to, and if you are not getting full speed, the problem is OBVIOUSLY not you. Tell this to Charter, so they won't blame your LAN, those &^#*&.
have you tried replacing the modem? this assumes you lease and can unplug and return to charter for a replacement. if you do not lease try it for a month.
what are your DL speeds? that is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and should work up to 960Mbps.

I do lease my modem, and have not invested in a new one. I'd like to be sure it is my modem before doing so. Charter is insistent it is not the modem, so they wont send me a new one.

I get 66mbps, which is 6mbps over the advertised speed in my area.
