Internet Download Speed

Okay, on speed test it's getting 750kb/s to 1meg download, but when I download from say steam for a game it's capping around 20kb/s to at most of 130 kb/s never goes any higher don't know why or what to do that can fix it?

speedtest and Steam report in two different values.

Speedtest and your ISP report in megabits/sec.
Steam reports in megabytes/sec.

Approx 8:1 ratio.

yeah well the dsl is downloading at dial up speeds, this is DSL? so what is going on?

If speedtest.net is telling you 1megabit/sec, and Steam is telling you 130kbps...that is just about right.

130 * 8 = ~1megabit/sec

OKay, well that's what i've been trying to figure out. um how come it can stream a 720p hd so well youtube and netflix, what is causing such slower dl speeds just the pipeline, older tech?

I'm just trying to figure out how its able to stream youtube netflix, andi can play a game online at the same so well, but it has a very slow download speed is what im getting at

What are you downloading? Some ISP's throttle some types of downloads.

steam games mostly, and a few things like apps. but they all have the same speed.
