Internet Getting Worse

Okay, I've got a computer that is somewhat old. I got it when Windows 7 was the newest OS, if that puts a perspective on it.

Anyway, I've had internet troubles for a while, for some unknown reason. The most recent of which is particularly troubling:

When I first moved into my current home, my wireless internet worked fine, no real issues. It may not have been the fastest, but it was plenty fast for my needs. Eventually, it started getting worse and worse while the other people I live with had no complaints.

I bought a new wireless card which helped for a little while, but then it kept getting worse and worse, again just in my room on my computer.

I bought a set of those plug-in wired things, hooked one up from the router to the wall and the other from my computer to the wall. That helped for a while, but my internet started getting worse and worse just like before, nobody else was having any issues. I recall running a speed test at this point and my wired was getting something like 3 Mb/s and the wireless was like 2 Mb/s, though I can't guarantee those numbers - both substantially lower than what I *should* be getting, and what the other people here are getting.

Now I'm to the point where the wireless has become faster than the faux-wired connection, not because it sped up, but because both connections have slowed down, the wireless just less-so. Fiddling with the antennae hasn't helped.

It is particularly spotty during different times of the day. I would think it was when the other people I live with were online, but sometimes that isn't the case and sometimes Netflix won't even buffer a video for me.

It was finally at a low point today, and when I ran a speed test I got .32 Mb/s DL with the wireless, and .16 Mb/s DL with the wired.

I can't find anything that seems to answer my question online, so I was hoping that if I started a thread about it I might be able to figure it out. My best guess is that the motherboard is dying or something, and that this is causing the wireless to be so terrible, but I am open to suggestions and would very much like help.

My best ideas are: new motherboard?, new wireless hi-def antennae, (another) new wireless card, an entire new computer. It isn't realistic for me to run a cable straight to the router, I'm a floor above it and a room over. Is there some other part of my computer that could be failing that would cause this? I feel like I keep trying to put band-aids on a broken arm or something.

tl;dr - internet has slowly been getting worse and worse on my desktop. Have tried replacing wireless card, and bought the faux-wired connector things, temporary partial fixes, got worse again eventually.
