Please help,
I live in West Michigan and I have a 1000ft driveway. Luckily I live on a popular road so I have AT&T along with Comcast/Xfinity lines down my road. The problem is that they want to charge me thousands of dollars to install so what can I do about this? I hate my 10GB Satellite Internet data cap and NEED wired internet. Could I possibly make a deal with one of the ISP's to lay the cable and they hook it up? I can't pay thousands of dollars just for internet hook-up. More than the average installation fee is reasonable but that's outrageous. I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm just so sick of this data cap.

Thanks-

Without a weatherproof and powered location, I don't have a recommendation. Can you get your electric utility to put a new meter in at your gate? What does that cost?

You may hate paying $7K, but that may just be what you have to do if you want internet AND want to be isolated.
1000ft will require fiber or COAX. Do you have power at your gate? Maybe you can get the internet provider to put their equipment in your gate house. If so then it is up to YOU to get the internet to your main house. If you can swing something like that, for 100Mbit or less connectivity, you can use direct burial multi-mode fiber. It could be installed with a vibrating plow type installation. You would need media converters on each end of the link to convert back to copper ethernet.

Thats what I was thinking. I don't have a gate or power by the road though. Couldn't I have them run their max distance (600ft for xfinity according to lady on chat) and then just have them let it stick out of the ground so I can continue it with a second cable? Unsure of what to do since I only have power at my house, 1000ft away.

You need to see how they can delivery the connection and how much power their equipment will take. To get it from the street to your house using a fiber converter take very little power. That you could easily power with a solar charged battery similar to what is used to open gates. The problem is the ISP may need to put in some power hogging modem to connect to your fiber converter.

I'm thinking an outdoor rated electrical extension and enough bricks to build a small 3X1 foot hut would be the cheapest way to go. You could probably even send the signal back to the house over powerline ethernet.

It really depends what the Telecems company will go allong with.

A media converter powered by power over ethernet would be quite good as it wouldnt require an electrician to install. and would fit in something the size of a lunchbox.

I'd imagine any degree of co-operation on this front will be difficult to get for residential if its anything like the UK.

Another out side of the box would be line of sight wifi to a friend or relative.
