Internet light amber

I just replaced a router and now the new one isn't working. The Internet light is amber (not red). It is an Actiontec MI424WR Rev. I

In the manual it says

If it glows amber, there is a physical connection to the ONT (Optical Network Terminator), but authentication has not taken place (i.e., no IP address is present) .

All other lights are green and in the gate way it says

Coax status: connecting...
Connection Type: connecting...

Everything was working with the other router.

have you spoken to your ISP?

they might need the MAC address of your new router

Did you follow the proper order when replacing the router?

1. Power down the modem
2. Power down the router
3. Disconnect the old router
4. Connect the new router
5. Power up the modem and wait for it to complete its power up cycle
6. Power up the new router and wait for it to complete its power up cycle

The modem will only communicate with the first MAC address it sees after power up.

I contacted the ISP and they broke the DHCP lease and that fixed it. I read somewhere that unplugging the original router and waiting 2 hours to plug in the new one also breaks the DHCP lease.
