Hi all
I have had recurring issues with my internet for some time. It has often dropped out for extended periods of time only to start working again a few hours later (usually late at night). I live in a high-rise apartment, and have fibre optic access directly through my wall (there is no "node box" or however one might call it in my apartment)
A few nights ago, it dropped out earlier than usual. I tried power cycling the router, but to no avail. I decided to wait until the morning in the hope that it would work again then, as is usually the case. 24 hours later and I was still just receiving a solid orange bar on my router with no possible connection.
I logged into my router via my laptop and did a reset of the settings and passwords, etc. which was the solution last time this occured. This time when I tried to make a new network connection it got to the point where I was to input my ISP Username and Password, which I did, but it did not accept.
I called my ISP who informed me that the connection appears fine from both ends, and confirmed my username and password, but I still could not get online. When I bypassed the router, and plugged the ethernet cable directly to my laptop, I could get access this way, so they asked me to call my router help line.
I called Belkin who had me perform several diagnostics, but could not come to a conclusion as to what the problem was (after an hour and a half on the phone). They had me call my ISP again to be certain that there was no problem on their end.
I called my ISP again, who had me bypass the router once again and plug my ethernet cable directly to my laptop. This time, I could not get internet access even with a direct connection. I also tried plugging it into another laptop which also could not get access. When I tried to make a new connection with my laptop, there was no real error message given, just that I had failed to make the connection. When I used the alternate laptop, I received and error 651 message. The customer service reresentative had no idea (he even tried resetting my password) and informed me he would call back after consulting someone to further diagnose the issue (he did not call back)
I could also not connect via the router through my phone.
Can anyone give me advice as I feel as though I'm starting to lose my mind. At first I thought it was a router problem, but that would not explain why, suddenly, I could not connect via ethernet cable either. The only possibility I can think of is that there is a physical problem wrong with the connection in my apartment and that I should contact building management. But then why could I connect initially with my ethernet cable (bypassing the router) only to have that option fail overnight?
