Hi I am trying to install a dell sonic wall behind a comcast modem and cannot get internet to, or through the dell sonic wall. I need specific help on DMZ or bridge mode and how that works and on what devices do i do it.
too dumb to know how to insert a picture, heres and word picture:
Internet----->comcast router/modem------>dell sonicwall/firewall--------->netgear gb switch
Not getting internet to sonic wall to pass onto network
thank you
[UPDATE]
Hey,
I was able to get everything set-up. According to Comcast, they don't "do" bridge mode anymore. At least for the modem I have. In order to get the "pass-through" ability I had to get a static IP. They only offer that ability with purchasing a static IP. Seems to be a ploy to make more money. Fortunately, I needed static IP's set up any way for VPN connection down the road.
Got the static IP's set up and then properly configured the WAN interface on the sonicwall's and I was all good to go. Thanks for help and advice Ragez234.
Oh I forgot to include that Comcast gave me the run around. Spent hours on friday listening to different tier level comcast techs tell me they could only do certain things and other portions of the Comcast company had to do other things. Luckly, on Saturday I got connected, first call, immediate pick-up, with a tier 1 tech (calling comcast business tech support) that told me if a tech can create and program a static IP for the account they can also produce the rate codes for the account.
He billed the account accordingly and programed the static IP's to my accounts within an hour. Also, was able to get tier 2 tech support while on the line with me that only took 20 mins. And stayed on the phone with me until my sonicwalls were configured and I had internet to all machines.
All that to say, don't let comcast tell you that you need to have 8 people to do one thing to your account. I got one tech support agent to do everything for me with no call backs and no waiting time for things to happen. It's a shame Comcast does not have all their tech's and customer reps as well prepared, knowledgeable, efficient and helpful and the tech I spoke with. He did an awesome job and reminded me that not everyone is in-competent.
Thanks again for the advice in this post Ragez234. The WAN config guide for the sonic wall was also a huge help. Once I was able to see, took me 10 seconds to configure sonicwall WAN interface.
(I'm new to IT) Was happy to see it was not as complicated as I was making it in my head.
Anyone else that reads this post and finds themselves in a similar situation as well as with dealing with comcast feel free to contact me so hopefully I can help you not have to lose as much time dealing with comcast as I did.
