Some basic details before I start:
ISP: CenturyLink
Modem: centrylink pk5001z modem
Form of connection: Direct connect, ethernet, short wire, connected to motherboard
OS: Windows 10 pro, build 1903 64 bit
Motherboard: msi 970 gaming (ms-7693)
Connected: 3 wireless, 1 wired.

So because I live in quite a isolated place I originally had around 0.03 mbps, barely enough to browse the internet.

But then not to long ago, my house was offered 10mbps. We didn't expect the total 10, but it was 20 bucks more, for FAR more speeds.

At first we got 5mbps, or at least the rest of the house did, I was getting 1mbps any time I attempted to download something (via steam, firefox, or the windows app store), which I didn't think too much of, as I was on the other end of the house from the modem, it was odd however that all of the browser based speed test were claiming I was getting the 5 everyone else was getting. Then, once some kinks were worked out, we ended up getting exactly 10mbps, sometimes a little bit more, or at least, everyone else was. I was still getting 1mbps downloads while they could all download at 10. Except this time I couldn't dismiss it, because now the modem is on my side of the house, close enough that with a very short wire I am direct connected, yet again, speed test programs are listing the speed everyone else in the house is getting 10mbps.

I followed all sorts of suggestions on this site and many others with no change, until I decided to do a system reset, clearing up my hard drive.

Download speeds 1mbps, speed test all claim 10.

I don't know what to do anymore.

TLDR: Getting 10mbps on speed test, others in house getting 10mbps downloads, I am getting 1mbps downloads. Did everything to pc I could find that was a similar problem, including a system reset, cleaning the hard drive of any potentinal programs that could have messed with things, unsure what else to do.

Solution
Most downloads are shown in megabytes (MB) and speedtest results are in megabits (Mb) . Since there are 8bits in a byte your 10Mb download speed would be 1.25MB. A 1 megabyte download speed on a 10 megabit network would be normal.
download from where?
who own the modem?
Download attempts were made from the firefox browser, the steam launcher, and the windows app store, all with the same result of a 1mbps speed when other people in the house are currently getting a 10mbps speed.

The modem is a CenturyLink brand modem as far as i can tell.

If that is not what you mean, sorry.

I am aware of that detail, but thank you for telling me, I am sure that is usually the most common mistake on this fourm.

Though in my case, it turns out my problem was a issue with the modem itself, some weird things that happened when someone was trying to port forward, and didn't understand what they were doing. As soon as i fixed that everything started working right. Not sure why only I had problems. Thank you both for the attention.
