[SOLVED] Internet troubleshooting?

What should I do before I call my isp to fix my internet? My internet breaks every morning from 6 am to 1pm or 2pm, and drops to extremely low speeds. I have fiber internet so I'm suppose to be getting 1000 down and 70 up. It's usually pretty great at 6am, but degrades over time. So what kind of troubleshooting can I do my self?

All troubleshooting involves reducing the number of variables (inputs that can affect outcome) to 1. In practice this means, you should have your testing PC/Laptop connected directly to the back of the modem to conduct this test, and disconnect everybody else in the house.
