Hi.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.70 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
PSU: CoolerMaster, MasterWatt 650W, I have been using this one for around 5 years, still in good condition I think. My PC was built by a friend, so the PSU would be original to build?

The internal drive I was copying from:
Crucial MX500, 2TB, 848GB free.

Have a WD Elements Desktop 12TB external hard drive. Attempted to backup a 400GB folder via copy/paste.
When I returned, there was an error message "Error 0x800701b1. An unexpected error is keeping you from copying this file....".
PC and mouse were frozen, and the HDD ejected itself from the PC. Eventually managed to transfer the folder in parts.
I then ran CHKDSK, WMIC, and sfc / scannow. They all said my drives were fine.

I am just a lay person, dont know much about IT so I am not sure what to do now. Have several questions.
Was what happened indicative of a major issue?
Is my external hard drive damaged?
If my data transfer is interrupted this way will it affect the file quality in my original folder?

Update your post to include full system hardware specs and OS information.

Include PSU: make, model, wattage, age, condition (original to build, new, refurbished, used)?

Other disk drives: make, model, capacity, how full?

Possibly power related:

This external HD?

WD 12 TB External Drive Link

It appears that the drive has its' own external power source. Is that correct? If so, check the power source.

Are you able to test the external drive on another known working computer?

Hi thank you for replying.

I have updated my post with the info you stated to the best of my ability.

Yes "WD 12 TB External Drive Link" this is the external hard drive I was using. The hard drive has to be connected to a power source to be used.
I should be able to ask a friend if I can borrow his PC to test the HD.
