Ion storm questions...

Hi all.

In a game of mine, there is a fully fuelled and fully armed Fed Biocide
using a 257 V ion storm to safely surf through my multiple web fields.
I need to kill this thing, before it reaches my homelands... but against
a 13-bay-carrier this is somewhat hard to do...

Donovan's pages about ion storms
(http://www.xs4all.nl/~donovan/help/ionstorms.htm)
state: "When a storm enters class 4 or class 5 the ships shields will be
rendered inoperative."
Stefan Reuther's "Ion storm physics" page
(http://www.xs4all.nl/~donovan/help/details.htm#ionstorms) doesn't say a
word about shield loss.
Especially no one says a word about WHEN the shield loss occurs...

So my question: if I intercept that Bio and attack it inside the storm:
- will it have shields?
- assuming my intercepting ships start outside the ion storm, will THEY
have shields (because "ion storms affect ships" is way before movement)?
- will the Fed bonus kick in and the Bio will have 25% shields?

I only have two ships in the area: an Emerald and a Crystal Thunder. If
the Bio would be shield-less and my ships would have shields, then I'd
have a good chance...

Help?

You mean, it's not using it's own engines at all? How can that be, because
the storm always moves faster than it pulls ships.

It happens somewhere in the ionstorm phase, don't know exact place.

That bloody storm has some 250 ly radius... Travels at warp 6... it
takes ages before the Bio is outside again...

Good...

Hm... Well good anyway...

Thanks!

If your the Crystal, lay webs right in front of the storm. Lay a bunch of
little webs and blow them up. If the Web field is in the storm, he cannot
sweep. Make overlapping webs and that Biocide will be yours in very short
order. You want to make sure your ships stay more than 36 light years from
the storm or you will take damage.

The trick is to make the web with a diameter greater than 36lys so you can
go to one end to expand the web but yet the storm moves to cover the center.
That way, it is invisible. I usually have my little webs already laid and
look forward to a storm bringing in fresh prey. I would drool over a
biocide.

Hehe... i was quite wondering about anyone wanting to destroy something what
was brought around from an ionstorm.... hehe... well Tholians are more
supposed to lurk around ashore and hoping all the time a ship passing, that
a storm may pull up suddenly so they can set up their fires and the ship get
lost at the cliffs (lol) I bet the owner of the biocide has more trouble
than the tholian. maybe he's got warp1 engines and cant do anything except
'waiting till the force of nature wears off'
