Does anyone know why ipconfig /release wouldn't reset the ip of a computer back to 0.0.0.0?

what does it show after you release the address?

you've probably already checked this, but maybe the ip address is manually assigned?

some OS' will set it back to the default subnet 169.254.XXX.XXX which is what it's set to if it can't get an IP address from the network
