I just bought this $50 printer, which was free with rebate, from
Fry's along with my $99 linspire computer..

Getting a free printer doesn't do much my confidence in it. What's
the skinny? Should I dump it on ebay?

I've never seen the output, so I can't judge that. They claim 4800 x
1200 dpi, but without a end result to judge I can't say.

The bad.... ink for the $50 ip1500 printer costs a tad more than many
$100 printers. Ink is thimble sized, 9.5ml or 10ml iirc. about
5cent/page black or so.

The good... It's not a Lexmark free printer. Those who operate those
have to ask them selves if it's cheaper to print in 14k gold. While a
cart won't get you through a ream of paper, they are under $8.00/pop,
or about $25 for both color and B&W. My niece is still using a bj2100
for light duty 3 page a month printing and she couldn't be happier.
She could also be to cheap to buy something new.

You can either use it, use up the $25 of free ink you got with it...
see if you like it or sell it and get something better.

Not so much "skinny" but more in the realm of
"what-you're-going-to-do-with-it". If you're doing just text and
simple graphics, well, it's all you need. If you're into high class
digital photos and extensive graphics, this isn't the machine for you.
Probably good for the kids if you can cheaply refill it or get
compatibles.

How do you know? He never stated what brand and model he has.

Measekite - get to your optometrist ASAP. Buy new glasses. Read the title

I just looked on the Alotofthings web site for compatable cartridges and
refill inks and I believe they have them for this printer. They sell
sensient Formulabs inks and their cartridges are also filled with inks from
this Mfgr. Several people report using this ink successfully. If you don't
see what you need you can call them. They have been very helpful in phone
calls with me.

They claim they sell Formulabs bulk ink but I cannot see where they say
all of their cartridges for the Canon IP Pixma printers are refilled
with the same. I would look elsewhere.

What good would that do? You - (the supreme, ultimate authority on refilling
based upon having owned for six months a single Canon printer which you have
never refilled) - already claim that none, other than Alotofthings, of the
online or storefront vendors state where their ink comes from. You already
know that all ink from Alotofthings is mfg'd by Sensient-Formulabs and that
ArrowJet cartridges are also filled with the same ink. This is just another
example of the irrational vendetta you have against a highly respected
online vendor. Why you choose to spread misinformation and outright
falsehoods can only speak to your lack of honesty and mental stability.

It is a simple matter to call them and ask if the cartridges you would like
to order are filled with Sensient Formulabs inks.
I called regarding cartridges for my i960 printer and they were very clear
that the cartridges I was ordering had that mfgrs ink in them. As far as
their bulk refill inks are concerned, here is the quote from their web site:

"All of the bulk inks and refill kits we carry contain ink manufactured by
Sensient Imaging Technologies, Formulabs Division - also known as Formulabs
for short. Distributed by TrueColor Imaging. "

JML appears to be new to this NG, so I will repeat what I and others have
said before. Measekite has never done business with this or any other
internet ink vendor, nor has he used any aftermarket inks. He has taken a
particular dislike to this firm and tries to disuade people from buying from
them whenever this firm is mentioned. When he says he would look elsewhere,
the fact is that he wouldn't look anywhere as he mistrusts all the
aftermaket inks and their vendors. He certainly has a right to choose not
to use these vendors or their products, and he should afford others the
right to tell you, from their own experience, what vendors have treated them
well and sold them products that have worked well in their printers.

For bulk inks only and that is very recent. They must of heard about
all of the non disclosures here. Maybe they even have a snitch on this
NG. There are so many.

Their website should make that disclosure. If it is not in writing they
cannot be trusted.

If that is the case you do not know that is the fact now. BUT YOU CAN
BE ASSURED THAT IF THE BOX SAYS CANON YOU GET CANON AND IF THE BOX SAYS
EPSON YOU GET EPSON AND IF THE BOX SAYS HP YOU GET HP.

With hawked inks you get a LABEL.

Now they have 3 names. I said earlier in this post that they finally
have decided to disclose who mfg their bulk inks. They do not say that
about the carts.

most of the others that do not disclose what they are selling. The
majority of the people who have printer problems have them due to
aftermarket inks.

How can you trust a company that does not disclose all of the truth
about what they are selling. If I had a very high printload then I
would have to find some source. Too bad that Sensinet will only sell
you large quantities. Too bad they do not package their ink in carts
and sell them in all of the channels like Staple or Office Depot etc
under their BRANDED name. Then word of mouth will tell the market how
good they are.

Not a handful of AfterMarket religious freeks like Burt AKA fotofreek.

That's not the real question. The real question is how can you trust a
poster like you who has never, ever used 3rd party inks. One who has no
experience at all. I mean NONE.
That's the real question.
The answer is quite simple. You can't trust one thing this looser says
cause he has no experience on which to base his non-opinion.
He's nothing but a mental case who likes to see his name on his own monitor.
Pay no attention to what he says as it's all bullshit.
All of it.

No and I am not in the lying business like you are. You're the worst
kind of a person. You're a liar and that means you're a cheat which also
makes you a thief.
You have no character, no morality and obviously no intelligence that is
useful for the subjects at hand.
You're nothing but a big zero full of hot air.

All low end printers are underpriced. They'll get you when you buy
the consumables, which aren't all that expensive for Canon printers.
