Hey guys! my title pretty much says it all. I have an iPad Mini running the iOS 11 Public Beta 4. For some odd reason, when i plug it into my MacBook Air via USB, it will connect and say "charging" but then disconnect every half a second. My iPhone however works fine!! A side note, i have Windows 10 installed through bootcamp onto my MacBook Air and the iPad works fine through Windows 10!!! Any help would be appreciated!!

MacBook Air, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Solution
This is a very common issue with Apple devices. I often face this issue with my iPhone 7 and iPod Touch. Though changing your charging cable or the charging brick itself is an easy solution, some basic troubleshooting methods should help you to fix this charging issue.

Basic port cleaning and dirt removal help me most of the times. Plus, clean your charging cable's lightning connector for rust or dirt deposition. An imperfect connection between your device and the cable usually causes this issue.

Did u try restarting both your Ipad and the Macbook and then connecting?

Yes. i did a hard reset on the iPad and the macbook but got nothing. I also tried multiple USB cables and different ports.

Does it show up on your itunes or does it disconnect on itunes every time?

The device will connect and disconnect from the computer every 1/2 second. It's fast enough that itunes wont even recognize it. i belive it's a software issue since it works flawlessly in windows 10 through bootcamp.

Not a port issue for sure since its working on windows 10. Might be a software glitch. If you are fine with this then try to downgrade and then upgrade using itunes.

Edit: Since it's iOS 11 preview, Download it directly using iPad without any interruptions on the WiFi network.

Good Luck :) Peace

Are you talking about the MacBook or iPad? I have another iPad mini that isn't on the iOS 11 public beta but it does the same thing. Its something to do with my MacBook for sure

But you were saying your iPhone is working fine.

It pretty much does. at the beginning it would do the same thing. it has to be some power management stuff. Because the iPhone draws alot less power than the iPad. so i'm assuming the computer OS has a bug that wont allow the iPad to get significant power to keep a stable connection.

Okay, Do one thing. if any of your friend's having a MacBook, try connecting your iPad. if its working fine then try a diagnostic test on your MacBook. if there is no problem with your hardware, backup your data and try reinstalling your Mac OS,

Good Luck :) Peace.

Diagnostics came back with nothing. it worked on my Dad's macbook air so a system restore sounds in order. i will do it when i'm around good wifi again.

Okay. Sounds like you need a system restore. Before doing a restore, backup your data and do a repair on your HD in disk utility and continue with the restore either by using a time machine backup(if you have one) or a fresh reinstall.

Good Luck :) Peace.

Well i did a clean install of mac os after doing a first aid on the disk. The problem still persists. i even tried the beta of mac os high sierra but it didnt fix it. i guess i will just have to take it to an apple store when i can.

Call Apple Support and check if they can help you out.

Good Luck.:) Peace.

Already have... ill just have to take it to an apple store

I fixed it!! Turns out that for some reason, some apple certified cables wont work after the Mavericks update. i tried a different cable that was a 3rd party cable and it works flawlessly!!

:cheese:

Peace.
