Question iPad not shown on list of connected wifi devices?

I'm new here so pardon the amateurish question. I logged into my Netgear router site (192. 168.1.1) to see a list of networked devices. My laptop shows up but my mom's iPad does not. What is the reason for this? Thank you.

You sure your mom's iPad is actually turned on and connected to that said router? You checked this?

I did, but let me explain further. I ran a firmware update on my router from my laptop (wifi). Prior to that the devices showed up. Once the update was done, my laptop wifi connection dropped, so I restarted it manually. I notice today that the devices (iPad too) are showing up on the list. Thank you.
