iPad or Andriod Tablet?

I currently own an iPad 2, and it's definitely time for an upgrade. I have always loved my iPad for the large range of apps optimized for it, but andriod has really caught my eye. I want the customization and features, but is it worth swtiching for?

I'm looking at the iPad Air 1 & 2, then the Nexus 9, Samsung Galaxy tab and the SHEILD tablet.

Price range anywhere from 350-500

I really would just like a tablet that has a nice display, and can run high end games for years to come. I would like the nexus for stock andriod (longer updates and root easier) but it's small and the galaxy has a real nice screen (but dat touch wiz :( )

I want updates for years to come, another worry for swtiching. Also, the smashng galaxy tab pro ($500) has WAY better specs than iPad Air ($400) but on geek bench and other graphic benchmarks the iPad Air beats the galaxy, how? I'm just looking for general advice, not necessarily a direct answer.

There's lots of online reviews to help you:

I would suggest physically getting a pen and paper to write down the PROS and CONS for each tablet.

While the SHIELD is nice one of its main benefits is streaming from a local NVidia PC which frankly I just don't get as I'd just use my PC and streaming over the internet would be too sluggish. Thus to me it's an Android tablet. Also, a new design with unproven reliability for the manufacturing compared to an APPLE product which is very, very good.

My pick?
iPad Air 2

For that price range, I would highly suggest going with the Galaxy Note 10.1. Here is a great deal on it from newegg.

I personally had used one of these for a company I worked for and absolutely loved it. The pen feature is the first that I thought works very much like actualy drawing. It has a quad core CPU, 2 gigs of ram, and 32 gigs of storage. This is would be fast for years to come.

As for the reasons the galaxy was not as good in benchmarks could be for a number of reasons. They are both very good in tablet terms. I mean, you aren't going to be getting excessively high quality gaming on a touchscreen tablet. But I bet it would surprise you how well it will look. The display on the galaxy is great.

I always chose android over apple because it was always so much cheaper. It is all I own now for phones and tablets (I game on a desktop). Feel free to ask any more questions you might have.

SHIELD TABLET:

I'm rethinking this. Provided you can verify build quality for someone who wants to GAME it looks like the best one (NVidia streaming aside which is just a bonus if you use that). Compared to the Nexus 9 it's very similar. It's slightly smaller at 8" versus 8.9" with a slightly lower but still great resolution screen.

The Shield Table however is $300 for the 16GB model whereas the Nexus 9 is $430. Even better the Shield Tablet has an SDXC slot and supports up to a 128GB card whereas most other tablets have no expansion. If you want 32GB instead of 16GB you usually have to shell out $100 up front not knowing if you need it (as a gamer you would).

Now I'd personally get the Apple iPad Air 2 however I don't game on tablets.
