iPhone 5c camera cable replacement

Just a quick question: Does the flex cable that holds the camera and speaker and all that stuff need to be connected to the heat plate behind the LCD? I noticed it has copper on the side against the plate, but also noticed replacement ones you can buy don't have the little squared glued to the plate. Is that just a part to hold it in place better or is it necessary for the camera and stuff to work?
