Please help:

I just replaced my iPhone 6 Plus. When I try to restore the backup to my new phone, I get the error message:
"iTunes could not restore the iPhone "paul" because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored."

My previous 6 Plus was running iOS 8.1 when I backed it up a few days ago. My new 6 Plus is running iOS 8.4.
I am running iTunes 12.2.0.145 on Windows 8.1.

The new iPhone does inherit the name "paul" from the backup.

After closing the error message, iTunes does automatically sync all of the apps and only the apps to the new phone without telling me I am syncing to a new library.
The apps do not retain their previous data (accounts, progress, etc.)

If I select songs, etc. to be synced, itunes tells me that I am syncing to a new library.

______
I have tried restoring the software on my new iPhone but that did not solve the problem.

SOLVED MY PROBLEM:
1.) Ended up using the Decipher Backup Repair software to look into what was causing the problem. The software showed that there were files in the backup not listed in the manifest. The solution was to delete these extra files. It was a lot of files so I just payed the $30 to have the software do it for me. It worked immediately.

2.) If you just want to be able to see your old contacts, etc, you can use a free iPhone backup file reader software to see this information. These softwares will allow you to view your old contacts and numbers as a list, you can also see your old photos and other data. If nothing else works, you can always do this, then reenter your contacts into your phone 1 by 1.
