iPod Touch 5G 16GB has a terrible battery life

I got an iPod Touch 5G with 16 GB around May in 2014. I bought it refurbished so that it would cost less. I had about seven months of good use with it, but after that, I noticed its battery would drop to 20% very often. I continued with this problem for a while until I installed a tweak with iBackupbot to show me the battery percentage at the top left of the screen like an iPhone would, since not one model of the iPod has ever had a battery percentage indicator. I charged it up to 100%, unplugged the charger, and then browsed Twitter for a while. After about 20 minutes, the battery was down to 25%. Nowadays, when I use my iPod, it's always plugged in, and I have to carry around one of those portable USB chargers. It can literally drop from a 100% charge to about 16% in less than 30 minutes of usage without it being plugged in.

I suspect since the iPod was refurbished, there was some sort of mistake made with the battery.

So what should I do? Bring it to an Apple store so they can fix it? Follow some crazy DIY guide? I think the Apple store would know what to do, but I want some advice and possible solutions before I head out to the mall.

Thanks!!

If you take it to an Apple Store, make sure you get an appointment in advance and let them know that your iPod will probably need to be swapped out. Backup all your content. They will probably swap it out for another refurbished, or take it and mail you another identical model. I know they did this for my refurbished iPad and charged $100 for it, but your iPod may be cheaper.
