I have a new AC type router and an older N type router, but they almost look identical.
I have a bridged isp cable router, so my isp states to turn off my AC router for the IP Lease to run out. I gather my IP address is based on the MAC address of my AC router. But how long would it take for the lease to run out? I tried searching and I got no real answers so I guess it takes a very long time.

Would my IP address change if I were to hook up the older N type router?
I'd use that for a few months or a year, then hook up my AC router and just keep doing that. Would there be new IP addresses all the time that way?

Why not?

I will look into cloning the MAC address of my old N router into my AC router and see if it changes the IP address.
If that works then I can just buy really old routers on the cheap and do the same, ever so often.

I tried TOR but its just too slow. There are also a lot of VPN's available, but I dont want to spend money on them if I dont have to.

Also, how do I make my IP address info private from the search engine IP address finder.

Because doing things because "you can" isn't really a reason for anything. Wanting to force change your IP address can serve many functions some of them unscrupulous. If there was a legitimate reason I guess you would say what it was.

Why would I do that?

Its a simple question. I like my anonymity and finding out that Google, GMail, Google Maps, Youtube (Google owns that too), pretty much anything Google owns saves my IP address. Heck Google even scans your emails. Its all very scary. I started using other products like Mozilla Firefox, DuckDuckGo, VPN's, and so what I want to do is just another layer. Heck I even sold my Windows 10 Computer and decided to go Linux Mint. I will even go as far as cancelling my isp and going to another company if thats what it takes.

I am sure if CSIS, CRA, NSA needs to know they will know.

Most of the response posts about my line of questions, there is always a person like you around asking why. I dont quite get it, like a child getting banned from a forum or something and you are so concerned about it. I dont think you are as naive to think CSIS CRA NSA FBI CIA cant find what they need to know. Its so shallow really. VPN's work for that right. So why do you want to know why. Why oh why oh why oh why. Like my children asking "Are we there yet" LOL

I dont see what the business of yours is to know why. Twice non the less, so who is the child. I dont see any rules on this nigelivey. Its not like I am asking for a P2P sharing torrent download site program, or what keys I need to shave down to open doors or start vehicles, which rumblers to use to open Masterlocks. Its like changing my car every so often, its no big deal. But you seem to think everythings so nefarious or whatever. Like I said VPN's or TOR's can be used for your view on the world. I however dont want to be tracked and my info sold. Others may turn a blind eye to it, or be in your camp asking Why oh why, like my children do.

What is it about changing IP addresses that is so wrong to you?
I really would like to know. Glass half empty kind of people.

I think I have made my point quite clearly. Changing IP addresses can be used to circumvent security and as such it's is prohibited to help in such a scenario on this forum. Really is no need to get shirty, you came here looking for help. Then started making petulant comments. Have a good day.

The only IP address you care about is your external address right? This should be fully controlled by your ISP.

The local addresses which your router serves up are completely irrelevant in the ways of tracking, irrelevant outside that network. If your router's clients are connected via DHCP then the rate at which your connected clients will get new addresses is controlled by the DHCP lease time. Changing routers or changing local address doesn't do anything to hide you, that's all local to that network only. Plus no one cares to track a local 192.168.X.X address.

If you're looking to have your external IP address changed more often then you should call your ISP tell them you would like you address to change more often. They will not ask why or should care. And they can probably control it for you.

In fact when I moved my IP address kept changing too much and I called my ISP and told them to freeze it (was becoming a PITA for development) and it hasn't changed since then even after modem reboots.

Thanks LogicBomb31 you are more helpful then that other person who I knew right off the bat wouldn't help at all. I read lot's of other forums asking the same question, where there are salty people exactly like that. Glass half empty type people. I never wanted "Average Joe" nor "Big Corp" to track me, that is exactly why I never listed my info in phone books and why I do not give out personal information when returning products to stores, and the list goes on and on.

I will keep trying the MAC address cloning, others had had success with that.

I did email my ISP technical division and they said to turn off my modem & router for a period of time. But never specified the length of time required.
They confirmed my ISP router was in Bridged Mode.
I also got the feeling from what they said that since the ISP router is in Bridged Mode that the internet "see's" my aftermarket home router behind the ISP router.

I do not recognize my current WAN IP address, it does look totally different then what I am used to and I think that is due to the fact a year or 2 ago, I Bridged the ISP router.

I tried connecting a computer to port 1 of the ISP router = no change

I will just keep at it and see what comes of it.
