I have a tight budget and I'm confused which of these I should buy:

Acer Nitro VG240Y Pbiip (1080p - IPS - 1ms - AMD FREESYNC - 144Hz)

ACER KG241QSBIIP (1080p - TN panel - 1m - AMD FREESYNC - Flicker free - 165 Hz)

I mainly play Fortnite which you all know is a competitive game, I was told by friends that even if IPS panels have 144hz 1ms, they still won't function in terms of performance as TN panels which is what got me confused.

So, which one should I buy?

Solution
I would read the reviews. Cheap IPS panels tend to be as bad as expensive TN panels in color reproduction and view angle. However, to my understanding the VG240Y isn't a cheap IPS panel.
Personally, I don't think you will see a difference between the two in terms of twitch based gaming. IPS refresh rates have come a long way. All things equal, a TN panel will have a very slim advantage in displaying an image faster. On the other hand a TN panel would be trounced by an OLED panel using the same metric. Obviously a competitive gamer would swear by it, but it makes negligible difference. No one processes information that quickly and reacts quick enough for display refresh rates to matter.
If you are hoping to get a competitive advantage...

If you are hoping to get a competitive advantage from a display. Probably the best route to go is to get a gaming laptop with an OLED display like an Asus ZenBook UX581 or Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED. But those run $2k.

Agree with above. IPS has significantly improved in performance over the last 1-2 years but it will cost more for a high quality monitor. There are still reasons why you might pick TN or VA. I bought a new 1440p 144Hz nearly a year ago and I was seriously considering VA or IPS and ended up going IPS.
