Here is my current setup: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Csbr4C

Im trying to decide on a monitor, and i keep hearing conflicted things on the matter of IPS vs TN.

I for sure want 1440 and a high refresh rate (anything above 90 is fine, but aiming for 144hz, dont care about higher then that atm).

Im really trying to see if IPS makes that much of a difference in color quality, etc... to justify the extra 200 dollars. One person says IPS is hugely better, then the other says TN is almost as good if its a good TN display. Very confusing to try and decide between them.

EDIT: I would like to note that viewing angle isnt the biggest deal. I will mostly be using it to game and being directly infront of it.

Traditional thinking:

TN Panel: Low input lag, bad color accuracy, bad viewing angle
IPS Panel: High input lag, good color accuracy, good viewing angle

True Facts:
A high quality TN panel will have low input lag (<=1ms), high refresh rates, good color accuracy, medium viewing angle. Basically, if you go for a quality (read expensive) TN panel, it will rival the middle level IPS panel in its shortcomings.

I myself have an LG 24 inch monitor which has IPS screen and has 75 Hz refresh rate with 5 ms response time. This can be reduced to 1ms with the flick of a button, but results in washed out screen and flicker on screen. I have used cheap TN panels also. Corlor accuracy and viewing angles are far superior in my LG monitor. However, if I were to increase my budget and go for a 144 Hz TN panel with 1 ms response time from a reputable manufacturer (ASUS, LG, Samsung, Acer, Benq, AOC), I would have similar color accuracy, slightly lower viewing angles (which wont matter, anyway) but with much higher refresh rate and response time.

TL;DR: It depends on what budget you are. Expensive TN monitors will most likely have all the advantages of IPS screen as well as all the advantages of TN screen.

I have about a 500-550 dollar budget at the moment

Any specific ones? I have a budget of about 500-550 for a good 1440 monitor

Hm. I was looking at a panel for 700 that was IPS. I might just have to hope that one goes on sale during Black Friday

Yeah those were some of the ones I was looking at. Id love the depth of color an IPS brings, but ive heard a TN can get CLOSE to an IPS, and if its close enough the extra 200 for an IPS isnt worth it for me
