I think Iridiums are great. You just can't beat them for boating. They simply work ANYWHERE. Rock on Iridium!

Yes, the target audience for the first Iridium was all wrong. This is for business/military personnel who need to transmit data and information from remote places. They should try to make their network available to other carriers as well, the big advantage they have is the satellites are already in place and anyone else would have to launch their own to compete. Might as well start selling services to all the global carriers so that they can get "roaming" coverage on Mt. Everest for example.
