Does IRST drive caching still work with modern Intel 300-series boards? It used to be a thing back in the Z-68/Z-77 days of expensive SSDs to use a small 64GB/32GB SSD to cache a large HDD.

Solution
Yes, it works still on Intel Z68, Z87, Q87, H87, Z77, Q77, H77 Express Chipset-based desktop board.
Make sure to connect both drives to the Intel native SATA ports.
Enter the BIOS and disable hot-plug mode if available and change AHCI to RAID.
Also, do not format the SSD, just delete the partitions and leave it as 'Unallocated space'
