[SOLVED] Is 1440p worth it over 1080p?

I plan on getting a 2070 super if I go 1440p, but if I go 1080p I'll prob scale down to a 2060 super. Is there a huge difference in 1440p gaming to justify the extra $300 that'll have to be spent on a better monitor and gpu? I plan on playing games such as COD, Fortnite, etc. at at least around 100 fps, and although fps is the priority, I don't think I'll notice a big difference in the fps gains on 1080p as I'll be playing around or over a 100 fps anyway. I'd really appreciate a response.

Honestly I hear people talk about how 1440p should always be 27" and how 1080p should always be 24" or else it will look ugly. And I just don't agree. But it's subjective. I do enjoy the higher resolution for more detail though between 24" 1080p and 27" 1440p. But the difference will depend more on panel type and refresh rate.

That's good. I'd say get whatever you can afford. 1440p just looks better, but obviously the panel is more expensive and you need better hardware to run it well.

Same here. I'm running a 1440p144 IPS monitor, and I was previously using a 1080p60 TN monitor. The difference is crazy. Resolution, image sharpness, image quality, and refresh rate. Even on desktop not playing games, moving icons or windows looks so much smoother (but that's thanks to 144hz).

Don't know about Garrett, but I have an Acer XF270HU from back when microcenter still had them. Unfortunately, they don't go for less than $400 anymore, so now my 1440p144 IPS recommendation is usually the Acer VG270U. I've heard that it sometimes has flicker issues though. The similarly priced XV272U may be better. Both are about $375. But to be completely safe, Asus's TUF Gaming VG27AQ is pretty good, and I haven't heard of any flicker issues on that. It's $430. It also has a smaller stand.

I’ve had 27” 1080p and for gaming and videos it’s fine. The problem is any sort of text I found the lack of sharpness annoying and I do a lot of Excel/Word based work. I wouldn’t buy another 27” 1080p myself for my usage but I can see how for predominantly gaming/video why some might be ok with it.

However 1440p is better. This is very non scientific but generally Id say 1440p medium settings looks better than 1080p high/ultra settings. I know it’s not really comparable but I just find it nicer on the eye. The extra sharpness also helps when picking out distant targets

That's exactly what I do. Just be sure not to mix refresh rates. sometimes if you play an animation on a 60Hz panel it will cause stuttering on the 144Hz panel. I got off rather lucky, since the games I play aren't affected. But Windows is planning a fix in build 2009, scheduled for April.

Ok I have to wait till summer anyway cuz I have to get all As so the monitors shouldn't be an issue.

Nope. There is a difference in pixel density so if I move my cursor from one monitor to the other the place where it leaves one is sometimes different than the place where it enters the other. But other than that it's great for productivity.

I have a 3700X and 2070. It runs less intensive games like CS GO and War Thunder at 144fps max settings (but not SSAA) just fine. Control with ray tracing on and medium settings is 60FPS (DLSS off), but that's mostly due to lack of DLSS (I should probably turn it back on) and RT on.
