Is 1GB of VRAM enough for 1080p gaming?

Hi everyone.

Right now, my CPU and RAM is so old that it's bottlenecking my entire system and I can't see how well my R7 260X actually works. Whatever resolution and whatever graphics settings I choose on any game, I get between 20 and 30FPS because that's apparently the speed my CPU can work at.

I will be building a new PC with an i3 4150 and 8GB of RAM soon, reusing the graphics card, and hopefully that won't slow down the graphics card and I'll be able to see its true potential. Would the measly 1GB of VRAM be enough to power gaming at 1080p at all, or will I really need a 2GB card for that?

Thanks in advance.

1GB can be enough for many games out now. When you turn down certain memory intensive effects and filters even Crysis 3 is playable at 1080p on high settings. Mind that the current gen or "next gen" console titles are handing over some pretty poor pc ports considering how much like a PC the ps4 and Xone are. One thing that 1GB won't be able to get around it seems is the high memory usage. Shadow of mordor has a 6GB VRAM requirement just for Ultra 1080p just for an example .
Now certain GPUs have been coupled with slower memory making them inefficient in utilizing memory, mind i am only speaking on the graphics card i have used or tried. For the price the R9 270 or 270x is decent and it's 2GB buffer is fine for the GPU power it...
you do need 2gb of ram for 1080p gaming at high or ultra textures (this not applicable for all games ) . but considering the graphics card u have i think the processing the power of your gpu will be more of a bottleneck than the vram.

I understand that my graphics card isn't going to max out any game, and my new rig obviously isn't an incredible graphics crunching monster, but would I be able to play a game like BF3 at 1080p even at medium textures?
