Is 1ms response time worth it?

I recently saw 2 monitors, one at 1ms response time and one at 5ms response time, but is it worth it to pay extra? It's like a £30 increase in price, and all the other features (resolution, display interfaces, etc) are the same.

Solution
Its not worth it for 99% of people. Anyone besides a professional gamer would be able to tell the two monitors response time apart in real world use.

It's the performance equivalent of getting a spoiler for your Honda Civic...

I'm not sure if you are being serious...

GET ONLY IPS monitors ... there are no IPS monitors with 1ms ...

IPS start at 4ms and are MUCH MUCH better than 1ms TN monitors , in colors , view Angels ....

Then there is the frequency , if you want to enjoy more than 60 fps you will need above 60hz monitors ... like the 144hz ones

Then there are Flicker free monitors ,

and nvidia Gsync or AMD freesync

it depends on your budget ..

IPS vs TN is debatable, unless you spend a LOT of money on the IPS.

2012, I bought two very nice HP ISP panels. HP ZR22W. Matched set, the colors blew me away.
Fast forward 2.5 yrs, one of them died.
I bought an Asus 23" TN panel to replace it. Similar price range, (under $150)

Holy crap. Similar viewing angle, even better colors.
The two side by side, I could not make the HP IPS look as good as the Asus TN.
No amount of adjustment, color calibration with a hueyPro device, etc, etc.

The Asus looked 'better'. And continues to do so.

The letters IPS vs TN is not a strict determinant of quality or picture.

well Asus IPS are better than Asus TN :)

Ofc it is not all about IPS , The Circuit is important too ... must choose carefully ..

but in General IPS > VA > TN

Wish OLED enters the market

PRAD.de is a very good site for reviewing monitors .

Okay , will reply in 2 hours .. minimum screen size ? 21.5 ? 23 ? 24? 27 ?

in UK right ?

Sorry for late reply, went out to eat. Anyway, any size is ok, but I would prefer 23 inch.

The response time means nothing to anyone. It's a spec made up to fool consumers into thinking lower is better. There's no standard when measuring, so manufacturers are free to fake the numbers how much they feel like it. Infact, most specs in a monitor are fake:

-Colors
-Contrast
-Viewing angles (typically)
-Response time

So, you can't judge or compare a monitor to another using specs provided by the manufacturer.

To answer your question OP, no, 1 ms is not better than other monitors that aren't 1 ms.

You won't get a better end result when editing videos by simply buying an IPS, and I hate seeing that recommendation from big YouTubers who are absolutely clueless.

In order to achieve a high color accuracy, the following must be true:

-Color temperature of your room doesn't change over time
-Calibrate monthly

People seem to think that IPS are accurate out of the box, that's a huge miconception. When experts say IPS are more accurate, they're talking about the viewing angles. IPS doesn't suffer from poor viewing angles which reduces contrast moving horizontally.

A calibrated TN would beat a non calibrated IPS. So don't make that assumption that IPS is better than TN because it's IPS.

All the best!
