Ok so i have been looking around the market and i found that i can buy a 1TB Hard Drive ( WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch - WD10EZEX) for 53.99$ USD. But i found a 2TB Hard Drive (Toshiba 3.5-Inch 2TB 7200 RPM SATA3/SATA 6.0 GB/s 64MB Hard Drive DT01ACA200) for 69.99$ USD. I was wondering is 1TB enough storage or is it worth it to pay that extra like 17$ for another whole TB? The 2TB Toshiba also has SATA3 which idk if that is that important because i know everything has to be compatible to use SATA3. Thanks for the responses. And also if you don't mind answering this. What has to be compatible in order to use SATA 3 like if i wanted to use the SATA3 on the 2TB Hard Drive does only my Motherboard have to be compatible with SATA3?

That depends on what you want to have in your computer. A 1080p Video rip of a film will cost you around 1.3 GB, A picture that has a resolution 13MP will need around 4.5 MB, an MP3 around 4MB.

Modern games can take up to 60GB on its own.

So what are you going to store in them?
How many of them are you going to store them?
Do the calculation and see.
In my case 3TB+ storage is not so sufficient for me. :-/
Hello... sata3 works in a sata2 connector... same type of cable too... no problem with either one working.
I would look at the comments on the Toshiba 2TB drives.. I've seen a few bad in the past... the WD is good company.
1 TB is a lot of Data space... MOVIE's, Videos will take up a lot of space... other Computer tasks and programs will not.

What are you going to use it for?

Yeah, WD whenever possible. The WD10EZEX is not very fast but it is reliable. I have 2 running in house. I had three, but something went wrong and WD sent me a 4TB Black as a replacement. Needless to say they exceeded my expectations. Either that or it was some WD techs last day on the job. LOL. But I did call and it was NOT a mistake according to them.

Im Also going to be getting a 250GB SSD to help with the speed of loading some programs and do you recommend any faster ones? And should i get 2TB ? Im going to be doing alot of editing/graphic designing stuff as well as gaming

Nuwan has it best. 1TB is great if you need 1TB. It's 1000GB. Is that enough? Only you can answer. The good news is that you can expand with addition drives later. Having an external drive for storage is a good idea anyway. Yes, the 250GB SSD is fine, again if you limit what you put on it and don't use it for temporary data. SSDs don't like being overwritten for too many years. It's mechanical and not magnetic like a traditional HDD. That is why SSDs have an expected life span. Think of it as punching holes in a sheet of paper and replacing the plugs to change the data. Sooner or later this thing wears out.

How should we know how much you need. Everybody have different needs. First PC? well I'd make sure I have enough cash to have a backup. Once that requirement is fulfilled, and you still have extra cash sitting around and no where to spend it on, by pure accounting, today 3TB is the sweet spot, it gives you the most bytes per buck.
