Is 27" too big for bedroom gaming?

Hi folks,

I'm building a new computer for my sons Xmas (I know it's months away but need to plan ahead) and my mind is telling me that a 27" screen is just too big to be sat directly in front of for gaming and have kind of got a 24" g-sync monitor in mind.

The set up will also be played at 1080p as want to make sure the graphics card (gtx 1060) will last for a few years (hopefully) and like the function that a g-sync monitor will give too.

Has anyone got any input on the 24" vs 27" debate....g-sync versions of monitors.

Solution
Even though 1060 max resolution is at 7680x4320 it doesn't mean games will perform at 8K. It can handle at playable 30fps-60 for most games but a steady 60+fps @ 1080p is better

Depends how far away he plans to sit from the TV, but you said a Gaming PC so I'm pretty sure that he'll be closer to it.
I'd suggest the 24 inch Monitor.

Then it's your decision, you might wanna go with the 27" if you want him to have higher resolution.

Thanks for the input folks.....so it seems to be set in stone that for 1080p gaming to stick with a 24" screen, the other issue/debate is wether 1080p is classed as old school and I'm not planning ahead enough.....obviously 1440p will look better and be future proof for a long time to come, but I don't know if a single gtx 1060 can handle that resolution with all the trimmings to maximum settings?

I don't want to be upgrading components every year to accommodate the latest titles he might want to play.

Gillhooley is right, 1080p will be "Full HD" for a while, it'd be best to get the 1080p one for now.
However, looking at the specs of the GTX 1060, it's max resolution is 7680x4320 at 60Hz..your call though.

Thanks for the benchmark numbers there.....its a bit disappointing that a £250 graphics card isn't upto the job of playing games at high fps at 1440p, so its just as well I'm sticking with the 1080p resolution which hopefully will have much higher numbers. Don't suppose you've got the graphs of the 1080p results for me to compare?

Thanks for those benchmark graphs, really interesting......are those results with every possible setting at maximum?

I'm not even sure how many options there is to tweak in a game these days......this is the first computer build I've done in at least 10 years.
I will also need to figure out which tweaks tax the graphics the most and see what ones are not really needed....when games get to a point that my chosen card begins to struggle. (I've not got the graphics card yet).
