Essentially what I mean by this is will this RAM currently considered fast but still affordable as currently the 12th gen and 13th gen lineup are still very expensive thus they likely won't be at peak sales right now. However with faster CPUs and GPUs we will need faster RAM signified by DDR5 RAM speeds hitting up to 6800mhz and the move away from DDR4 even though Intel have mentioned that DDR4 will still be supported.
Currently I am making a "close to top-spec" Intel Gaming Build for heavy gaming however I am considering swapping out the planned i9 12900K for the 13900K instead however I do know to get the full performance benefits from the 13900K I would need to have both a GPU and fast enough RAM to keep up.
(Current build does use a 12900K and 3080 12GB for around £2900 - £3200) - Can link parts list if wanted

ddr4 vs ddr5 for the 12000 series showed almost no benefit of the more expensive ddr5. i don't expect that to change much with the 13000 series. but i have not seen any reviews yet comparing the 2. tom's review said it will add ddr4 numbers soon as they did not have time before it was posted.

i don't think there will be enough of a difference to justify the added cost. so no ddr4 is not "irrelevant" at this time and won't be for a long while. each new gen takes at least a year before it's worth it due to cost, compatibility issues and so on.

What hurts ddr5 is the timings.
When you do the math comparing ddr4 vs ddr5 there is not a big diff.
I can only guess that the timings will get better in the future.
