Hey guys,

I have an AMD Rx460 OC edition for a year and a half now. Recently, I was playing fortnite and the PC just shut down. So I changed my thermal Paste as it was completely dry. And now I play the same game and the temps go upto 75 c. Also at idle it is at 40c-45c. Thanks in advance. PS: All my drivers are up to date.

If the CPU is getting hot and the CPU fan still isn't spinning, then you might want to plug a known working fan into the CPU fan header (maybe a case fan) just to see if it spins right away or not; or if it spins at all.

Agree with you on the first part. GPU temp is fine and within parameters, and also the PC prob shut down because of the temps.

However, I would never suggest someone 'increase the CPU shutdown temp or disable it'. TBH I've never even seen such an option (that's not to say some mobo's don't have the option). But, given the OP has had to change thermal paste, disabling a monitoring tool that helps to throttle the CPU in extreme temps or shut down altogether, to protect the CPU, is crazy. Those functions are there to tell the user there is something wrong and protect the CPU. Changing those parameters or disabling them altogether is not a good idea.

To the OP please don't do that!

Divin_123 Does your PC shutdown or reboot? In addition to answering that question, please do the following:

List any and all specs (cpu, ram amount, motherboard mfg & model, storage, graphics card, case, power supply manufacturer and model#...)

Take at least two pictures of the "inside" of your computer case. Upload those photos to imgur and share the link here. I want to get an idea of your case's airflow. Also, does your case have one working fan or two?

Download and run HWmonitor (https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/hwmonitor_1.35.exe). Please load the application, game for five plus minutes, and then take notes of the CPU temps. Please provide this thread with the precise average range of the CPU cores.

Hey thanks for replying, I had actually replaced the thermal paste in my CPU along with the GPU.And I also reduced the maximum processor state from 100% to 99%.
PS: My fan runs at 39% on auto, is it too low???

GPU temp is fine (I know I'm repeating this part).

If the shutdown was your CPU overheating, then the PC would shut itself off again if you tried to turn it on again right away.

If you were able to immediately reboot then it's more likely to do with the game (maybe something didn't update right), the RAM (too much trying to be used at once), or some calculation error (a binary number flips by mistake; it's an occasional glitch that won't harm anything except for what isn't saved).

So if your PC isn't regularly shutting itself off, it's probably not a big deal.

Auto fan speed is usually fine, since it automatically tries to keep a certain temperature.

Thanks for replying, I dont think its a RAM issue cus I hv 8GB. And no, I am not able to reboot immediately.

Then yeah, since you have to wait to successfully turn it on again, it's probably the CPU overheating for whatever reason. Though since you re-applied the thermal paste, I also assume you cleaned the dust out of it... so I'm not sure what could be causing it.

I guess i will try and do it again. My CPU temps at idle is 50 c. Is that too high??

From what i've read it's usually just because it isn't using enough power to necessitate it... so likely not to be an issue, but it may be a bigger problem than is apparent. also going back to the gpu temps, if your worried you can easily raise the fan curve using msi afterburner, although those temps seem perfectly acceptable.
