Is $500 too much for a used gaming PC?

I am trying to sell a used gaming PC to a person I know from high school for $500.

Here are the specs for it: 23" monitor, core i5 processor, GTX 650 Ti 1 Gb graphics card, 6 Gb DDR3 memory, 1 Tb hard drive, and Windows 7.

He said that he'll think about it. I am feeling kinda bad if I am asking for too much.

Thanks.

Good point! What about $400? Too little? Or is it okay? Don't forget the monitor.

It's a good monitor. About 5 years old. It plays games at 1080p but I am not sure if it means that it is 1080p too. The make is aspire I think. Anyways, I plan to reduce it to $400. Do you think it will be reasonable for him?

Alright. Thanks a lot for your time and help. Now that I know what price to charge I don't feel bad anymore.

What are the full system specs including motherboard make and model, psu, case? You need to create a complete list of parts and there exact makes and models for anyone to know for sure but personally I'd offer you about $400 bucks if everything works.

First of all this is $500 not $400

Second of all, I bought a GTX 780/ SSD/ i5 3570k z77 system will quality componments (and expensive ones here) for $600 that came with a nice cooler master mechnical keyboard

SOmeone else got a GTX 980 rig here yesterday for $750.

This is too much for that old rig

you guys keep thinking of it as 'Well pc parts picker says it's worth $500 it's a fair deal!'

so what? used componments sell cheaper, 3 generation old used componments liek this sell WAY cheaper

If you had read the whole thread, you'd know we'd settled on $400 for the rig. Once again. Show me where you can beat that price including a 1080p monitor.

You gave him bad advice based on your own personal anecdote.

Price out your parts based on statistics, not your few personal experiences...and don't assume you know what we base our recommendations on.

from ebay sold listings average prices.

$125 - 2500 (non k)
$35 - 6gb decent DDR3 (1x4, 1x2)
$20 - decent case
$35-75 - decent motherboard
$30 - decent PSU
$40 - 650 ti
$50 - 20" 1080p @ 60hz
$40 - Windows 7 (really, I should count this closer to its full retail value, its not like a used copy has wear)

at the cheapest, this is $375 before shipping costs... for parts you'll need to put together yourself once they arrive.

Oh no building a system! Stuff everyone here enjoys..

Anyways prices are just plain silly.

125 for a non k 2500 WITHOUT shipping?

Psh, you want a 2500k shipped for 125? I'll sell you it right here right now.

Also, I can sell you a Z97 MSI mobo BNIB for 75... a used old gen mobo is 75? We don't know brand, prolly biostar or some trash

There are a metric <mod edit> of Ks that sold for under 100 SHIPPED.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i5-2500K-3-3-GHz-Quad-Core-BX80623I52500K-Processor-/171724765686?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27fb97f9f6

If you hop on plebbit/hardware swap you can fund 2500ks for $100-90 shipped all day every day... picked up a BNIB mobo and a 2500k open box there for 130 shipped...

All the prices are silly really.

Also the 20" monitor isn't worth very much because shipping is like $20 and the monitor is worth $30 shipped... If OP wanted to part out that system he'd get t00sed

Once again, you showed one instance. Anecdotal evidence is a horrible basis for a recommendation.

Also the price I quoted includes the intel cooler.

Here are the actual sold listings on ebay, sorted by date. (what you linked is a completed listing - the transaction may not have been finished in completed listings)

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=i5+2500k&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc

There aren't a "metric <mod edit>' selling for under that. You *can* get one for that price, with luck and patience.

That is a horrible basis for a recommendation as well, especially since you didn't add the caveat that it may take a while to find one at that price and he'll need to buy a cooler for it.

You're right. For 150 he can get the unlocked version and a H100 water cooler, shipped, or the same for 175 on ebay

For 50, he can get a *super* fancy case, shipped

A decent OC board would be $50

A nice, high watt PSU after rebate (newegg dumping stock of non modular models) runs 30

A used 128gb ssd would be 30 or 40, sometims newegg has for 29.99

which leaves 90 bucks for a 7950 which THRASH the 650 TI

still need monitor and an OS, but when was the last time YOU bought an os?

Id like to see any of these things you're mentioning above...

You might be VERY lucky to nab a 7950 for $90 but I estimate it would run you at least 20-30 more with shipping. Bottom line is that all the prices you are listing are extreme lowball values.

most recent sale, ebay usall y 20%-10 higher than places sellers sell on other sistes due to ebay fees,

easy to get for 90
