Is 55°C an acceptable idle temperature for a GTX 1080 GPU?

55°C at idle seems a little high to me. It never quite reaches 80°C under load so I'm not too worried there, but from what I've read elsewhere, most people's GPU runs 35°-40° idle. Just concerned that a prolonged, high idle temp may shorten the lifespan of my card.

My GPU is an EVGA GTX 1080 FTW.

All depends on passive airflow and ambient temps. FYI, is this dead idle? or idle as in like one youtube video running? Since running even a video can spike temps since the fans are not spinning.

55C is high, but it's literally impossible for that temp to degrade the gpu quicker. So it's ultra (overkill) safe nonetheless.

It must be running hot then. The ambient temperature in my room is 21°-22°C. Any idea why it's running so hot?

Yes, dead idle. 0% load. It occasionally jumps to 3% or so but only for a few seconds.

That particular card does run hot. You can change the fan rpm/temperature ramp to better control the temperature (but it will be louder).

Some graphics cards (like mine) have a quiet mode where the fans doesn't turn on until a preset temperature (around 60 C). But that doesn't appear to be the case here.
