Is 6+2 really just 8 pin?

Im not understanding how 6+2 pin slots work on PSU's. My corsair CX600 claims in its specifications that it has two 6+2 slots, however both slots only have 6 holes.

Ive seen 6+2 plugs and they have 8 slots all together. Do I just leave extra 2 hanging out for no reason or something?

ya just leave them, they will come in useful if you switch GPU later to something that needs a little more power

Well thats what I was going to do.
I only have two slots left over in the PSU that have 6 holes (after connecting one to the board and the other to a hard drive)
I want to get a GTX960 but they all claim to have 8 pin.

so you would plug the 6 pin part and the little 2 pin extra in to the GPU to equal an 8 pin connector.
