I am getting a new PSU soon (Cooler Master V700) but i'm worried that 700w may be too be a PSU for a GTX 980 and an i7 4790k. Is it ok or should I go for a smaller one?

Solution
Depends, on what your plans is for future upgrades is. If you don't really ever plan to run SLI, then a high quality 550 watt PSU will suite your needs perfectly, as you will have plenty of room for overclocking too. But if you plan on going SLI in the future, a 750-850 watt PSU will be perfect.
For the 550 Watt PSU I recommend the Cooler Master V550
For the 750-850 Watt PSU I recommend the EVGA G2 850W or EVGA G2 750W
It's overkill but it wouldn't hurt anything.

A 550W is the recommended minimum but here's some more info:

1) The MAX wattage would be roughly just over 300 Watts.

2) I recommend 50% to 60% load to keep the power supply fan noise down

3) Thus a quality 550W to 650W is just fine so a 700W isn't too far off that.

Other:
- semi, full or non-modular? (cables)
- quality (reviews, customer feedback)
- 850W if considering a 2nd GTX980 later (and motherboard supports SLI)
