is 720p suitable for gtx 970

I plan on using my current PC which includes a gtx 970 with a 720p monitor. I do not care about visuals, just performance. Am I going to get a much higher frame rate using this monitor as opposed to 1080p?

Frames is depending on what processor you have. The GTX 970 is able to max everything out at Ultra in 1080 so 720, no problems.

Short answer: Yes.

Long one: Why in the heck would you buy a GTX 970 for 720p, that's quite ridiculous. It can max almost all games on 1080p, and that offers quite more eye-candy..... You're basically going to be playing on Medium settings .

The GTX 970 is a 1440p GPU.

It is far too good for half that resolution; 720p.

The GTX 750 Ti is an overkill 720p GPU.

the monitor I own and not the PC. my question was whether there is a big difference in framerate between these 2 resolutions. just that some people say that this card is built for 1080p, which gives me an idea that there isn't.

If you're going to play at 720p you only need a GTX 750 Ti.

If you're going to play at 1080p/1440p a GTX 970 is the right decision.

If you will upgrade to 1080p soon then a GTX 970 is fine for 720p really.
