Is 74c too hot for my HD 7950?

Hi,

I have recently been overclocking my HD 7950, and have been very successful with it.
Core: 1155Mhz
Memory: 1400Mhz
Core Voltage: 1.169v

But, after testing things out a bit, the temps max out at 74c in FurMark. Is this too high for long term use? (I don't want this thing to die in a year.) Also, is the voltage too high? I have researched this, and I found some mixed results. Some people said that you could run it at 1.3v all day long with no problems, but others said to keep it under 1.2v unless you planned to replace it in a year.

Depends on how long the PC will be on for.
If you're going to be gaming for 2-5 hours, it's fine. But if your pc is a 24/7 machine, you'll be loosing that GPU in days... Be careful. And no, 74°C is perfectly fine for a FurMark test.

The MAXIMUM safe temp is 85 degrees celcius. I would not go near there with my own 7950 (i have one too )
I would stay under 75. That was a benchmark you were testing normally your card wouldn't go that high anyway. you know the limits of you card just be smart and it wil be fine. in the real world it wouldn't keep at that temp for long periods of time so i reckon the oc is fine

Asus 7970 matrix uses 1,26V at stock and the chip itself is essentially the same as in the 7950. (both are Tahiti, 7950 has some units disabled)

Thanks for all of your answers! It sounds like the overclock is fine, I just need to up the fan speed for whenever I'm bitcoin mining!

It's running great for 1150Mhz. Mine's at 1050 since I bought it a year ago. You can push memory higher although you might not see much of a difference. Mine's at 1450. Didn't exceed 70c till today.

Mine is an Overclocking beast! I can get it stable at 1300Mhz core, 1.2v if I set the fan speed to 100%. But, the fan is too noisy to leave it like that all the time, and I didn't see a lot of benefit from leaving it at that speed, vs the 1155Mhz it's at now. (Maybe 1 - 2 fps?) I could have pushed it even further if the 83c with the fans at 100% didn't worry me!

What program r u guyz using because i just used catylyst and kept pushing up the slider and it was stable until the end of the slider. Cant remember how much mhz i got but it was good. I have my fans on 100% sounds like a jet engine but i have noise cancelling headset so that doesnt bother me. and i get temps of 40-50 ocasioanlly 60 while playing bf4

Yea i have afterburner installed but havent tinkered with it yet. Since my apu is bottlenecking my 7950 anyway

I bought my HD 7950 three days before they discontinued it! It was a good thing that I did, because I would have been stuck with a Nvidia card for Bitcoin mining.

Wait, why did you get an Apu in the first place? Why not get a Fx 83xx? I have a Fx 8350 and I can run BF4 on ultra 1080p with everything at stock.

Not really. I joined a mining pool, and the HD 7950 plows through whatever the pool sends it. It gets around 600Mhashes which is higher than a lot of ASIC miners. (unless they cost $30,000)

Just download this program called GuiMiner (At least thats just what I use) then choose a mining pool from inside the program, register for the pool, create a worker and put the workers username and password into the program. Then, you just click start mining and it goes to work. A video tutorial on youtube would probably be a lot more descriptive than me, but this is just the general idea of what you have to do to setup for mining. You also need to download a bitcoin wallet program, so that once you do earn some bitcoins from your pool, it goes into your wallet and you own them. Trust me, the mining is a slow process. It will take a couple of weeks to get a quarter of a bitcoin. (generally) But, bitcoins sell for $800 right now, so who cares!
