Hello!

I have an Asus Vivobook Pro 15 N580VD, with i5 7300HQ, nVIDIA GTX 1050 4GB and 12GB RAM.

I have noticed that my temps were quite high(85 degrees Celsius for the CPU and around 80 for the GPU) in games like BF1, GTA V, Tannenberg, Mudrunner, even in FS15 or CSGO. However, it never stopped working.

I was able to undervolt my CPU using Intel XTU (-0.120 mV) and the CPU temp maxed out at 80 degrees, while the GPU temp remained the same. Also, the temps in CSGO/FS15 maxed out at 75 degrees CPU and GPU. However, I noticed that the GPU keeps thermal throttling at 80, but I can't feel the lag(the clock speed is not reduced too much from what I remember).

Are the temps normal? Is there any chance that I will destroy my laptop? Can I use it without having to worry? What can I do do lower the temps? (without changing the thermal paste, as I never did it before). Also, why are the temps so high in games like FS, CSGO, Mudrunner as they only require a decent computer to run.

(I am using a cooling pad, and the laptop was cleaned of dust)

Solution
80c. is normal for a strong graphics card. GTX1050 is lower powered, and I might guess less.

85c is about the target for a stress test.
Normal operation should be perhaps 75c.
Cooling designs are so-so in laptops. Cooling pad is good but to get the most out of them is to box it underneath with sponge strips so that all air generated by the pad doesn't escape out the undersides.
Oh so you say to lift the laptop a little bit and to create some space between the laptop and the cooling pad?

Na i mean stick on sponge strips around under the laptop to trap the air.

Should be able to find some at your local hardware store.

Laptop coolers need to be small and light.
As such, they do not cool well.
Not much you can do about it that you have already done.
If your cpu gets near 100c, it will throttle until it gets cool enough to resume full speed.
This yo-yo effect can be disturbing.
I might suggest you experiment with reducing the maxim cpu performance from 100% to perhaps 80%
Do this in windows power options.
Most games will perform decently .

I did reduced it to 99%, but I will try to reduce it to 80.
Anyway, the laptop never got to 100 degrees(not even close)
