I disagree of course, Windows requires 4GB, most games need at least 4-6GB, meaning when you game, you will use a lot of pagefile (hard drive access) I would push your ram to 16GB *IF* your laptop permits it.

If this question is about whether to buy a particular machine, then the answer is to get one with as much RAM as possible within your budget, other things like graphics being equal. Else if you already own the kit use it and see what happens.

8GB is fine for most uses. Of course, more is better. However, given the make/model of the system in question, "more" may not even be an option. Don't sweat it. 8GB is fine.
