Hello, I just bought used i7-3770k cpu. But temperature is 90c in intelburn test. my previous cpu i5-2500 only hit 78c. I'm using cryorig m9i cooler.
I'm not even oc it.
I have try reapply thermal paste 3 times and got same result.
my room temperature is 32c-38c.
idle temperature 45c-50c.
in aaa gaming temperature reach 80c(cpu and gpu)
is this normal?

pc spec
asrock b75 pro3
i7-3770k
cryorig m9i cpu cooler
msi gtx1060 3gb
2x 8gb apacer ddr3-1600mhz ram
corsair cx450m
4x 12x12 intake case fan 1300rpm
1x 12x12 pwm exhaust case fan 1800rpm
1x 480gb ssd sandisk
1x 2tb hdd 7200rpm
1x 500gb hdd 5000rpm
windows 7 ultimate sp1

Solution
Holy moly.
Where do you live?
31-32 is unbearable. 38??
Didn’t notice that.
Cooler is running at max possible rpm.
Processor is fine.
Abmbient temp is the problem.
Liquid cooler will help you here.
4770k does not run that high. It’s not 8700k
70-75 is acceptable if you want it to last longer.
Change the cooler?
Maybe you are using small case?
By the way you are using rather mediocre mainboard. Underclock your cpu by .2ghz there won’t be performance difference cause MB is already bottlenecking your components.
Performance difference between yours and good Z series is noticeable.

Underclocking your CPU is best bet. You won’t even have to pay anything at all.

Answer these questions-
Inlet fans and outlet fans equilibrium?
Overclocked Processor?
Old CPU Cooler?
Too much Thermal compound? Too little Thermal Compound?
Cheap Thermal Compound?
Bad/Broken/Damaged Processor?
Bad/Broken/Damaged CPU Cooler?
Is your cooler running at max rpms when temps reach about 70-75 or not?
At 90 is your cooler running at full speed or not?

processor only run at turbo boost (cpu vcore at 1.232v),
almost 1 year cpu cooler (used on old cpu i5-2500 which max temp 78c)
i only apply a tiny bit of ant thermal paste (only cover around 70% of cpu surface)
i used cryorig stock thermal paste.
i don't know it bad cpu or not, the seller say temperature in intel stock cooler more than 105c
it run at max 2188rpm when temp reach 65c,

Title says 90 you in your post say 80
Which is it?
80 is fine, although its understandable because I also reside in a hot country.
90 is a bit too much
80c in game, 90c in cpu stress test( the temperature result is different depend on morning ,afternoon and night)
i dont have aircond in my room, only have table fan it pretty hot.

You can always underclock your CPU if you are that worried. That will cool it down a bit.
Do you have the side of the case ON or OFF?
Have you tried it with it OFF and seen the difference in temperature?
I must admit, I have the side of my case OFF, just to allow hear to escape easier, even though I have some high end fans in the case, i find removing the side is better.

i have try turn of turbo boost it give 84c on stress test
removing side case reduce 2-3c only.

32-38c basically at my room i don't open window and door, only 1 table fan so that why it hot. outside is 31-36c at afternoon pretty hot and at night 28c.
it i7-3770k not i7-4770k
this motherboard basically for my older cpu i5-2500.
i have try under volt cpu vcore to 1.128v and it give 84c stress test.
i try turn off turbo boost and under volt vcore give me 78c stress test( basically same result as my older i5 cpu)
the only problem is idle temperature is 48c.

Oh don’t worry about ideal Temp. If you want is down. Increasing fan speed will do that.
Think about it, fan running little bit faster would make your cpu run little less hotter. My solution for my own i7 5820K.
