Is a 1,000W PSU absolutely necessary for this build?

Is it absolutely 100% imperative to have a 1,000W power supply for the following PC build?

*Core i7 7700K
*16GB DDR4 RAM
*ASUS Maximus IX Hero motherboard
*Two-way SLI Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 ASUS RoG/STRIX edition

I'm in the process of building this, one part at a time as soon as I can afford it, and I've been eyeing the Corsair AX 860 Platinum 860-watt power supply.

I read a lot of positive reviews about the unit.

850w is enough yes.

that ax is a really nice unit.

personal preference would be the seasonic prime 850w titanium,12 year warranty.
but that ax is just as good.

A 750w should be enough for 1080 SLI. The PSU for 1080ti SLI to get is a 850W. Here is a reveiw with the 1080ti SLI saying 800w.

The 860w is more than enough.
