Want to upgrade: Dell DT 9010, Win 7 Pro, i7 3770, 500gb-HD, 4gb-RAM ( 2 x 2gb ) to 8, 12, 16, or 20gb RAM ... PC has 4-RAM-banks, Max-32gb.

Current RAM: 2 x Hynix 2gb 1Rx8 PC3 -- 12800U -- 11 -- 11 -- A1 HMT325U6CFR8C -- PB N0 AA --- RAM is DDR3 Dual Channel 1600 mhz ( 800mhz + 800mhz )

Is the 12800U a UDIMM and is the Dell 9010 supposed to have regular DIMM RAM, such as 12800 (without the U at the end ) and how important is the upgrade RAM being 1 or 2 rank: current RAM says: 1Rx8 (1-rank).

Solution
I'd just go with a 2x8Gb kit 16Gb should be more than enough and using 2 sticks is easier on the memory controller and is usually more stable than using 4 dimms.
I read somewhere that a UDIMM RAM is for a PC being used as a server and that it's slower than a regular DIMM. My PC is being used for running programs and surfing the internet only ...

What about DDR3L, that L is not listed on the Dell Optiplex page for the 9010 here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_OptiPlex Dell 9010: mid-2012: 1066/1333 MHz, DDR3, 4, DDR3-1600, 32gb --- The DDR3L is only listed for and after the Dell 3040-5040: Late-2015: 1066/1333 MHz, DDR3L, DDR3L-1600, 16gb

http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/optiplex-9010-%28desktop%29/CT7347326 812001 Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR3L-1600 UDIMM CT7347326 --- DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • upgrade for Dell OptiPlex 9010 (Desktop) system.

and what about the 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR3L-1866 UDIMM
CT7372414 DDR3 PC3-14900 • CL=13 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1866 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • upgrade for Dell OptiPlex 9010 (Desktop) system.

The https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dell_OptiPlex page lists the Dell 9010: mid-2012: 1066/1333 MHz, DDR3, 4, DDR3-1600, 32gb, doesn't mention DDR3-1866 as an option for any Dell Optiplex model. Only the last Optiplex PC on the list, the 7040, late-2015, goes past the DDR3L-1600, it only has DDR4-2133 listed.

Also, in the full Prod-Info-Title at the middle of each page of the 15 available RAM kits, they all say DDR3L, but only the last 2 highest GB-kits list the RAM in the Specs-line as being DDR3 without the L ... Does this mean anything and-or have any thing to do with getting the right RAM-kit ...

So this the best one to get for the 90100 ... http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/optiplex-9010-%28desktop%... 812001 Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR3L-1600 UDIMM CT7347326 --- DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64 • upgrade for Dell OptiPlex 9010 (Desktop) system.

If I install the 2 Crucial RAM's can I leave in the current RAM too for a total of 20gb-RAM: 2 x Hynix 2gb 1Rx8 PC3 -- 12800U -- 11 -- 11 -- A1 HMT325U6CFR8C -- PB N0 AA --- RAM is DDR3 Dual Channel 1600 mhz ( 800mhz + 800mhz )

And should I replace the 2 x 2gb-RAM's with the 8-gb-RAM in the #1 and #3 DIMM banks and put the 2 x 2gb-RAM's into the #2 and #4 DIMM banks ...

What performs best, 4 x 4gb RAM's, 2 x 8gb RAM's, 2 x 8gb with 2 x 2gb for a total of 20gb-RAM ... Are there any other brands worth considering, ebay lists: Hynix, Elpida, A-Tech, CMS, and some others ... To save some-$, would maxing out at 12gb-RAM-installed, be way more than enough, bcs the current 4gb-RAM is used up quickly to 95%, as listed on the task manager, when using 1 or more browsers and many tabs open, even though the CPU-usage is always below 25% ...

"That should work. You can try mixing the RAM but there is no guarantee the sets will play nicely."

Is there any risk in trying ... If they don't work together can that cause any after-effects that are still noticed even after taking out the 2 - 2gb-RAM's ...

Is there a best brand in this list, if yes are they all still ok, are there any that we should stay away from ... Ebay lists these brands: Dell, Crucial, Hynix, Elpida, A-Tech, CMS, and some others ... Is there a TH recommended best brands RAM list ...

What about that same question regarding the brand of RAM's performance, reliabilty. I like to buy on ebay used or new to save-$. They have a good system for ensuring that sellers tell you just what you're buying-getting from them, I just deal with the warranty that is offered.
