I would like to purchase a monitor but am to earn between saving money with a 1080p monitor or paying more with 1440p, but I don't know if 1440p is really worth the 200-300 dollar price increase or if it's better to go with 1080p right now. (Both in 144hz as well) I am using these for gaming btw.

If you would use the monitor for at least 2-3 years, I recommend to go with a 1440P monitor that really can be more productive when you are opening multiple screens and work at the same time. I use a 2560 x 1080 Dell 29inch monitor, and it allows me to do two 1280 x 1080 windows at the same time at all time; it really is much more productive when I need to open and use more than one windows.

Gtx 980 and Intel 4790k I don't know if that is good enough...

Yes that is sufficient for 1440p, you shouldn't run into much issue using the higher resolution

Ok, do you think I would be better off with this monitor instead of going all out with 1440p: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824160226

What better options are there and I just wanted a G Sync Monitor and 144hz because I wanted smoother gameplay. If there are better options please show me them. :)

My apologies I was confused on what you were suggesting. A little tired. For G sync with 144hz, that's your best price point for sure. However if you have some extra coin, you could go with 1440p/G sync/144hz:

ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q:

If not, between 1440p and G sync/144hz, it come down to personal preference, whether you prefer smoother or better looking gameplay.

Trust me I've looked at that monitor and I truly want it I might save money for it I just didn't know how well/badly my card would have performed on 1440p and I am afraid it would kill my gpu in games because I'm not one to enjoy 30 fps unless it's potato optimized Dayz. Do you think it is worth to wait for the ROG swift or better to get a monitor I know I can have good performance with... even thought the Swift is amazing.

Have you tried looking into acer ?
Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) NVIDIA G-Sync Widescreen Display
This monitor have the same spec as the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q

or maybe look at this one for a cheaper option

Acer XB270HU bprz 27-inch WQHD NVIDIA G-SYNC (2560 x 1440) Widescreen Monitor

The only difference between the XB270HU and XB271HU is that the 271 has the potential to OC to 165Hz refresh rate
Both of these monitors are IPS and has 4ms reponse time and also G-Sync

OK the XB271HU seems pretty nice now I don't know if I should get the pg278q, pg279q, or xb271hu.

In my opinion if you are considering to buy one of them then take the PG279Q because its the best one from all the choices. But buy the Acer XB271HU if you are tight on budget and want to save a couple of dollars.

The thing that scares me is that the pg279q has 3 stars on amazon and the XB271HU is more expensive but I hear it's better than the pg279q.

I don't know why is the XB271HU more expensive than PG279Q but here in Australia the PG279Q is $1199 and the XB271HU is $1049. Personally if the Asus is cheaper then get the Asus.

I guess I'll wait a month or so and see if asus fixes their monitors because a lot of people are giving it bad ratings for quality control and if they fix it I'll get that but if not I'll get xb271hu. I just hope I get about 60 fps with my 980.
