Is a 144hz monitor worth it?

I have an rx 480 and i7 4770. I run fortnite at around 130-160 fps usually but in tilted and areas near tilted i drop to 65-100 fps.

I play fortnite competitively and it often feels choppy to the point where I cant hit a shot or i lost sight of a player that is moving quickly. My question is, I am not getting over 144fps consistently but will a 144hz monitor make the drops to 65 and 100 fps seem less choppy and will it make the game feel smoother overall?

Also, what are the risks if i buy the cheapest 144hz monitor possible? is there really a difference between a $250 aud monitor and a $500 aud 144hz monitor?

Thanks in advance.

yes, i ended up getting the acer kg271a which is a 27" 144hz 1ms tn panel ($369 at PLE). as a cheapy spare - there is a 24.5" version for about $299. im actually quite surprised how well it performs as well as the colour for a TN display. i actually had it side by side with a predator last weekend at a LAN party and it held up surprisingly well. i play battlefront 2 with dips down to about 105 and it is fine. as you have an amd card you can activate freesync if you like.

does free sync feel smoother when fps drops too like 105 or is it better to keep 144hz at 105 fps
