is a 290 crossfire worth it

so i plan on getting a 290 crossfire set up when better coolers come out after seeing the extra performance is give's, my thing is though....will this actually be able to max games for 2-3years, have both 1080p and 1440p moniter, willing to switch between to get max graphics on games.

I know no one can say for 100% but any guesses? assuming each gen of cards and the new 20mm-16 mm makes only 10-20 percent difference i should be fine right? but if its big, along with new memory types ect....would i deteriorate in quality and frames quickly

A single R9-290 alone can max out any of the games today and clubbing another R9-290 would results in insane level of performance for sure.
