I've used a few different wattage calculators but they haven't given me consistent answers. I have an EVGA 500W Bronze PSU and I'm planning on swapping out my 970 for a 1070. Will the PSU suffice for the 1070 and my non-OC'd i5-6600K?
While i agree taht it should work, you really should do yourself(and your system) a favor and get a better PSU. Will do. I see that there's a 650W version of that PSU that's actually about $5 cheaper than the 550W... Will that be overkill?

For now, it would be but it'll provide plenty of wattage if you want to upgrade in the future.

No such thing. If it's cheaper, go for it. PSUs have their greatest efficiency from 25 to 75% typiaclly, so tehre's taht as a bonus.

Nvidia recommended power supply for the GTX 1070 is 500W. If you're EVGA 500B has been running your GTX 970 without issue it will absolutely run a GTX 1070. There's nothing wrong with it. Never understood the mindset of people encouraging others to spend money unnecessarily and replace perfectly good hardware based on nothing more than F.U.D..

I'm guessing you've also never had your PSU smoke a brand new GPU, amirite?
